Waiting Not-So-Patiently Tap, tap, tap, tap. The sound grated on nerves already stretched taut. The waiting was growing more and more exhausting. Anticipation made his heart thump and his palms sweat. Not that he could feel his damp palms. They were already soaked from the rain. Tap, tap, tap, tap. Gritting his teeth against the annoying sound, he hunched his shoulders against the ceaseless rain. All he managed to accomplish was rearranging the rain gear so it soaked a new spot on his jacket collar. His nose wrinkled at the musty odor that wafted upward at the shifting of his body. He hadn't been dry in days and his uniform showed it. Tap-tap, tap-tap, tap-tap. The noise of the rain hitting rain gear doubled as another soldier slid down the rough stone wall beside him. Tap-tap, tap-tap, tap-tap. Surging to his feet, he clenched his fists and let out a strangled cry of protest. Swallowing the lump in his throat that he strongly suspected was his heart, Doc looked up and raised his eyebrows. "Lord love a duck, Kirby. You tryin' to give us all heart failure?" Shoulders slumped, Kirby let out a mournful cry. "When are they gonna serve chow?!" END-ish |
