| Challenge: A member of the squad (Anyone) gets a letter from a loved one (wife, parent, sibling whatever) of a soldier who was killed. It could be a comfort letter, a thank you letter or an angry letter. Whatever. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The guys are not mine they belong to someone else. I just like to play with them for a while. I do not profit in any way from this story except spending ‘virtual time’ with the men from the first squad of King Company 361st infantry, second platoon, Lieutenant Hanley in command. ~ KT Heartfelt "Mail's here!" Kirby hollered as he walked into the small barn. "Billy," "Yo." Kirby took a smell of the letter. "Must be from Evelyn." "Hush, Kirby." Billy snatched the letter and went back to his bed roll. "Sarge." "Hum?" Kirby walked over to his snoozing leader and laid the letter on his chest. "Here ya go, Sarge, your mail." "Thanks, Kirby." He pulled the envelope up to his face. At first he didn't recognize the name. He sat up and swung his legs over the side of the cart that he was using as his bed. He looked at the name again and it hit full force. Gregor, Ronald Gregor. He'd written Gregor's mother at least two months ago. Why was she writing him back? He shook the letter to one side and tore the end open. He puffed into it, expanding the envelope enough to get the letter out. Unfolding the paper he began reading. Dear Sergeant Saunders, Your letter reached me two weeks after the telegram that told us of Ronnie's death. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to write. Ronnie spoke of `his' squad often and had even sent home pictures of each of you. We had them framed for when he was to return home. The pictures hang on the wall in our living room in a prominent place along with Ronnie's metals and the flag that came back with him. I pray for you and your squad every day, Sergeant Saunders. I pray for wisdom and protection for all our men over seas, especially the men of King Company. Thank you, Sergeant Saunders for trying to keep my son alive. God bless you.
